Each card is the crop that app actually uses. Facebook, Instagram DMs, and iMessage cut to 1.91:1 when the file is at least 600px wide (smaller files become a square thumb). WhatsApp uses a square thumb on the left of the chat bubble. X cuts to 2:1. LinkedIn keeps the real ratio in a small left thumb. The boxes on the original image show those windows. Instagram feed posts do not show a website card.

What this Open Graph checker looks at

A WordPress social preview checker is not Facebook’s cache debugger. We read the live HTML: og:title, og:description, og:image, og:type, and twitter:card. Then we fetch the image and mock Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, LinkedIn, iMessage, and X. 1200 x 630 is the safe size.

If these tags are missing, LinkedIn pulls a random sentence. Set them in Yoast, Rank Math, or AIOSEO social settings.

og:image size

We download the share image and read pixel size. Under 200px fails. Under 600px looks soft. Aim for 1200 x 630.

Twitter / X cards

twitter:card=summary_large_image gives a large preview. X still falls back to Open Graph if the card is missing.

Why does Facebook show the wrong image?

Facebook caches the first scrape. Fix og:image in your SEO plugin, then paste the URL into Facebook Sharing Debugger and click Scrape Again. LinkedIn has Post Inspector for the same job.

What size should og:image be for WordPress?

Use 1200 x 630 pixels, JPG or PNG, under 1 MB, on HTTPS. Facebook and WhatsApp use that 1.91:1 ratio. LinkedIn feed square-crops the centre of the same image, so keep the subject in the middle.

Is this the Facebook Sharing Debugger?

No. We show live tags and mock previews. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram still cache the first scrape. Use Facebook Sharing Debugger to refresh Meta apps. LinkedIn has Post Inspector.

Does Instagram show my website when I share a link?

Instagram feed posts do not unfurl a website card. Instagram DMs and Stories link stickers do, and they read the same Open Graph tags as Facebook and WhatsApp (Meta’s crawler).

Does WhatsApp use Open Graph?

Yes. Paste a URL in a WhatsApp chat and it fetches og:title, og:description, and og:image. WhatsApp uses Meta’s scraper, so a Facebook Sharing Debugger rescrape often fixes a stale WhatsApp preview too.
